PRep checklist

We are thrilled to work with you on our upcoming photoshoot! Preparation is key to ensuring a photoshoot runs smoothly and on schedule. Below is a checklist in preparation for your session.

1. Come with hair and makeup done for the first look, unless you are having your hair/makeup done professionally by one of our artists.

2. If you are having professional hair/makeup please come with hair washed and dried. We recommend to wash hair the night before. Face must be clean with no makeup and moisturized with no SPF. Please provide us with any makeup/hair product allergies you may have. You should also provide us photos of any inspiration you make like prior so that our artists can prep their kits with the appropriate color palettes to achieve the desired look. You can also click here to get ideas from our library.

3. Wardrobe should be steamed and pressed. It is recommended to carry in a garment bag to avoid creating wrinkles.

4. We recommend manicured nails as they will show in your images. So make sure you groom accordingly to match your outfits!

5. Please make sure under arms and facial hair is groomed accordingly.

6. Undergarments should be nude or appropriate for the particular look you are going for. We wouldn’t want it to be peeking through or out of the clothing!

7. Feel free to bring any additional items, such as accessories and personal props.

8. Please also bring any imagery that you would like to use as inspiration for your shoot if you did not already send to us!

MODEL DIGITALS/ MODEL POLAROIDS

“Model digitals” are simple snapshots of the model in neutral clothing against a white or neutral background. Clients and agencies use them to get a sense of what the model looks like right now. Model digitals are sometimes referred to as “model polaroids” because before digital photography they would be taken on the spot with a polaroid camera. They can be taken by a professional photographer, but a polaroid shoot can be much more casual. Some guidelines for model digitals and model polaroids, when working with us:

  • Background will be neutral or white with copious natural lighting. Don’t try to hide artfully in the shadows. It’s not that kind of shoot. Your session will be either in-studio or on-location depending which city you are booking your session for.

  • Wardrobe for fashion models should be form-fitting (for females/non-binary), neutral-colored or black jeans or leggings (for females/non-binary) and neutral-colored top. We always recommend black or white tops. Black or denim bottoms. For fitness or swimwear models, wear black swimwear that showcases your physique. You can also wear lingerie in place of swimwear as well. For males that have physiques for activewear, swimwear and underwear clients - shirtless is also an option for some of your shots. We recommend that you come bring several options for all of the above so we can help you decide if something is not working. Shoes should enhance your height so for those who identify as males please bring white sneakers or black options sneakers/boots . Those who identify as female please bring black or nude heels. Please come already dressed and ready to go.

  • No heavy makeup or hairstyling. Light makeup and concealer is fine. The goal isn’t to look perfect — it’s to look natural. Please make sure your nails are groomed with a natural or neutral color. Bright colors are distracting in digitals and not recommended.

  • We also highly recommend that you bring a towel just in case you sweat easily if your digital session is outdoors and translucent powder in case you get too shiny whether indoors or outdoors!

  • No Photoshop or airbrushing.  The only acceptable editing is to correct any distortion created by a wide-angle lens. You don’t want lensing to create an inaccurate representation of your figure.

Models need several current model polaroids in their model portfolios at any given time, featuring different poses and different angles. The digitals can be taken in the same session with the same outfit; the goal is to show up-to-date images of the model in the most natural setting possible from different angles. Model digitals should be updated every few months; agencies may require their signed models to replenish the polaroids in their model portfolios on a regular basis. Agencies and clients may include specific requirements for model polaroids submitted to them. Please see the Model Digitals examples show below and on this link so that you can practice and prepare for your Model Polaroids.

Thespian actor PORTFOLIO OR headshot SESSIONS

Great headshots and portfolio images start with preparation. The goal is to capture the best version of you—authentic, confident, and ready to book the roles you want. Below are some guidelines to help you show up feeling your best.

Wardrobe

  • Keep it simple. Solid colors, classic cuts, and minimal branding work best. Avoid distracting patterns or logos.

  • Choose colors that complement your skin tone. Jewel tones, neutrals, and earthy shades tend to photograph well.

  • Layering adds dimension. A fitted jacket, sweater, or structured top can add variety to your shots.

  • Bring options. It’s always good to have a few choices so we can adjust based on lighting and background.

Hair & Grooming

  • Keep it natural. Your headshot should reflect how you typically look when you walk into a casting.

  • Fresh haircut? If you’re getting one, schedule it at least a week before your session so it settles.

  • For long hair, bring a brush or styling tools if you want to switch between looks.

  • Men: A clean shave or well-groomed facial hair. If you’re keeping a beard, make sure it’s shaped up.

Makeup

  • Less is more. Light, natural makeup that evens out your skin tone is ideal. Avoid heavy contouring.

  • Matte finishes work best. Avoid anything too dewy or shimmery, as it can reflect under studio lighting.

  • Bring touch-up essentials. A translucent powder, lip balm, and blotting papers can help refresh your look.

Mindset & Energy

  • Rest up. A good night’s sleep makes a huge difference.

  • Hydrate. Your skin will look fresher and more vibrant.

  • Think about the roles you want to book. If you’re aiming for leading roles, comedic characters, or corporate looks, we’ll capture that vibe in your expressions and wardrobe choices.

Final Touches

  • Arrive with clean, moisturized skin.

  • If you wear glasses, bring a pair with non-glare lenses if possible.

  • Have fun with it—your personality is what makes your headshot stand out!
